Greenbush - video

Ain't no logos in this video, no stickered up boards to be seen, but there's enough barrel weaving nous to sit up and pay attention, especially from old mate in the booties. How's his first wave..?

Edit: 'Old mate', as it happens, is Brazilian Gabriel Lima, and here's what he had to say about this session:

"Even with three boats anchored the crowd was minimal, just a few surfers from each boat were willing to face the imposing perfection of Greenbush. All were taken by the spirit of surf and the mood outside was full fellowship. It was the best day of the trip, those who surfed and those who didn’t, everyone was euphoric, drinking cold Bintang at the sunset and toasting the blessing that nature had given us."

That was cool as fuck.

Amazing pits for the boys, yet still illustrates the level that the elites are at - the difference between making a barrel and doing it with nuanced finesse is stark especially from the detachment of your IPad and in slow motion .

But don't get me wrong.

The crew charged , got silly tubes and maybe had the session of their lives.

Epic vid, cheers.

Who do you reckon would've had more fun and stoke filled satisfaction from that session, the elites or this crew of punters? At the end of the day that's simply all it comes down to...

Dunno when I see someone doing more with a wave than I am, I try to self reflect when I see how I could be riding better. Especially when you see guys absolutely destroying it you want to do more. Not just making the barrel, but going deeper, having better style, hitting an air off the end ect.

Don't get me wrong I absolutely have fun, but it could be even better.

I admire the skills of the guys that go out there and totally smash it and enjoy watching certain aspects of their surfing for sure, but never feel I have to try to compete or match their skill levels. Then again I'm probably a lot older than you are which might have something to do with it.
Whatever your take on it, as long as you're out there having a good time that's all that matters...

I would work every Saturday for the rest of my life for a full day of that

That's too easy Mibs.

Work a few Saturday's then pay for a Ments trip and just go.

Find out which tide and swell directions it works best on and target it accordingly.

No real magic involved.

Just make sure there's not a majority of natural footers on your boat.

Skunked in the Ments ?

Twice ?

Unless you're extremely unlucky I'd say you're on the wrong boats .

Who have you been with ?

Mibs, If you want to surf Green Bush you need to ensure you go when there is window of Spring tides as needs a decent high tide.

Add to that an offshore and a long period swell with a decent amount of south in the direction and you are on.

High tide is good if you want to want to avoid exposed reef on washthroughs but will barrel better on low and give you a good reason to make it

You are a ripper Gabriel, and caught some smokin' faceys in that clip. Well done.

Have you considered the style improvements that would come with changing your name to Gary? Possibly Garybriel?

Also, to truly achieve the Elite status, consider a workout regime that alternates between sets of one-legged-squats and posting thankyou notes from your gym customers on the internet.

Your thoughts on the bush, Gary? Green or otherwise

Generally stay clear of the GreenBush, but I'm a bit of a weapon with the Green Eggs and Ham if you get my drift, Clivus.
